Domaine de la Main d'Or is located a few kilometers away from the Tournus romane abbey at the heart of Southern Burgundy. Vines were planted in this region as early as the Gallo-Roman times. Wines were then shipped on the Saône river to Lugdunum and Massilia. Reseaches done by historians show evidence of vines on one of the parcel of our estate two thousand years ago.
During the Middle-Age, the monks of the abbey of Cluny contributed greatly to enhanced the notoriety of wines from Mâconnais and Tournus. A 1415 edict of french king Charles VI on wine trade in Paris identified five areas of production for Bourgogne Wines : Beaune, Auxerre, Tournus, Dijon and Mâcon. Tournus vineyards are today part of Côtes Mâconnaises.
Domaine de la Main d'Or includes a 3 hectares vineyard located on stony slopes of the hill of the village of Chardonnay and a winery in the village of Lugny. The winery ("Tinaillet" in patois mâconnais) was made in 2003 in an old vine grower stone-house. Modern equipment allows us to make fine wines in a traditonnal way.
Domaine de la Main d'Or produces only white wine under the french QWPSR (Quality Wine Produced in a Specified Region) label "Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée Mâcon-Chardonnay".
